29 years ago, more than 1,000 disability rights activists headed to the U.S. Capitol building to demand equal rights for people with disabilities. March 12, 1990 was a day of rallies, speeches, and protests calling for the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The day has been commemorated as “Capitol Crawl,” as many activists made their calls for equality and justice visceral by leaving their wheelchairs and mobility devices to crawl up the Capitol steps.
