Supported Decision Making Overview
During the 84th Texas Legislative Session in 2015, legislators passed new laws that make Texas the first state to have laws recognizing supported decision-making agreements as an alternative to guardianship. This handout explains supported decision making agreements including what rights the person with a disability maintains, what the supporter can and cannot do, and how this type of agreement differs from a power of attorney.
